5 New Local Eateries You Must Try This Fall Season

The last 18 months have slowed many industries from expanding across the nation, but there is one sector that refused to quit locally. We can’t be surprised that in Louisiana, especially Lafayette, restaurants have continued to grow! Quite a number of new eateries have made the food scene and this upcoming fall weather may be the perfect time to taste them for yourself. Our team gathered notes on some of the most talked about restaurants and rated them based on how much they may hit your wallet. Give each one a peek, and then tell us on our Facebook which one you want to try for a chance to win dinner, on us.

1. Hideaway on Lee

Impact on Wallet: Small - very affordable at around $10 a plate

This restaurant is quintessential downtown, with venue space for music, as well as serving up some of the most delicious burgers in Lafayette. The casual and festival-like vibe is something you don’t want to miss out on. For an extra twist, stop by on Trivia night or brunch on Sundays.

2. Priya’s J&J Indian Foods

Creamy sauce, authentic Indian spice, and everything nice: If you love ethnic foods, you need to run to Priya’s! Part of the charm of this little shop is the cook behind it all: Ms. Priya. She is the sweetest, most caring restaurant owner you’ll ever meet and you can taste it in her cooking. She ensures every bite is authentic Indian — packed with flavor.

3. Tchoup's MidCity Smokehouse

Impact on Wallet: Medium - affordable at around $18 a plate
Menu: https://www.eatmidcitybbq.com/

It’s uncommon to find authentic local BBQ, but Tchoup’s is up to the task. Located in the quaint Hub City location, right off of South College, this restaurant has renovated a vintage home and turned it into a meat lover’s paradise, complete with a dazzling patio. The menu includes anything and everything you could want at an old fashioned BBQ, with a variety of meats including pork, sausage, chicken, shrimp, and ribs. You can pair that with traditional sides you would come to expect such as potato salad, green beans, macaroni and cheese, beans, and cornbread. Pro-tip: One of the best items on the menu is the pulled pork queso! Don’t visit without ordering this incredible appetizer.

4. Jane’s French Cuisine

Impact on Wallet: Large - $35 per plate
Menu: https://janesfrenchcuisine.com/our-menu/

Who can say no to french dining? Especially since it’s such a rare treat to find fine, french dining in Acadiana, this is a must-visit restaurant on your fall list. The resident chef has direct experience with Parisian cooking and brings France to life in this little restaurant nestled off of University Avenue. The menu changes frequently, but never compromises on authentic French cuisine. Reviews of the restaurant are overflowing with delightful kudos to their atmosphere, including a french-inspired courtyard, and food that is beyond compare.

5. Vestal

Impact on Wallet: Extra Large - luxury dining at around $50 a plate
Menu: https://vestalrestaurant.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Vestal_Menu_21.pdf

If you’re not one to blow your restaurant budget, this may be a spot to save for a special occasion! Vestal is new to the Lafayette scene, opening its doors just a few months ago. But it has taken the restaurant industry by storm, with countless praise and enthusiastic recommendations from locals. The ambience and interior style is perfection; walking through the doors makes you wonder if you are transported to a different city in another state. With an open kitchen concept, you feel as if you are in an exotic cavern, treated to some of the most delicious meals Lafayette has to offer. Their steak is melt-in-your-mouth amazing, and you don’t want to miss out on their fresh, sourdough bread or fresh seafood. It has been said their drinks are the best to offer in all of Lafayette. But be forewarned, especially if you plan to do multiple courses, everything adds up quickly. You definitely want to budget around $100-$300 for this profound experience.
